Piero Siena, years of art, years of life
curated by Gabriella Belli and Paola Tognon

The first section collects some among the main cultural references of a generation, the one of the early thirty years of the XXth century in Italy and in Europe. Underlined by the figurative choices is Piero Siena’s course of life, starting with futurism with a particular

attention to the theme of speed, to the Russian avant-gardes (with unpublished artworks), and German ones, up to Italian Realism. Exhibited are the artworks by Umberto Boccioni, Gino Severini, Giacomo Balla, Natalja Goncarova, Michail Larionov, Otto Dix. There couldn’t but be a car of the time, the Cisitalia 202, model by which Piero Siena competed the Mille Miglia (One thousand miles) in 1951.

Memory
curated by Andreas Hapkemeyer and Paola Tognon

Linked to the first section – through the video work by Mark Wallinger, Threshold to the Kingdom, this second part foresees the exhibit of the artworks of three internationally recognized artists who were asked to create or dedicate an artwork to the concept of memory. Works by: Maurizio Nannucci, Giulio Paolini, Mauro Staccioli.

Intuition
curated by Paola Tognon

A challenge to the future closes this exhibiting partly thanks to the assignment of works dedicated to the project and made by two very young artists – one Italian and one German – who work within a European environment. The artists who have freely interpreted history and the events that trace the entire show, but first of all – autonomously – the spirit of the project, represent an ideal continuation of Piero Siena’s exhibiting line, and of his experimentation. Artworks by: Francesco Iodice and Berta Fischer.
